ΕΓΚΑΙΝΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΚΘΕΣΗΣ “A More Perfect Union: American Artists and the Currents of Our Time”
H Πρεσβεία των Η.Π.Α. στην Ελλάδα και το Οικονομικό Φόρουμ των Δελφών ανακοινώνουν την πρωτοβουλία Partners in Democracy Περιλαμβάνει το Partners in Democracy Symposium και Έκθεση με θέμα: A More Perfect Union: American Artists and the Currents of Our Time
Βρισκόμαστε σε ένα κρίσιμο σταυροδρόμι της ιστορίας, μπροστά σε μια πρωτοφανή διαμάχη μεταξύ δημοκρατίας και αυταρχικής εξουσίας. Οι επιλογές μας σήμερα, θα καθορίσουν το μέλλον μας και το ερώτημα που προκύπτει είναι σε τι κόσμο θέλουμε να ζούμε; Η Πρεσβεία των Η.Π.Α. στην Ελλάδα και το Οικονομικό Φόρουμ των Δελφών, σε συνεργασία με το Art in Embassies παρουσιάζουν την πρωτοβουλία Partners in Democracy, στις 24 και 25 Μαΐου, στην Αθήνα.
Το Partners in Democracy θα φιλοξενήσει νέους ηγέτες, εκπροσώπους της κοινωνίας των πολιτών και εξέχοντες εμπειρογνώμονες από την Ελλάδα, τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και όλο τον κόσμο για να συζητήσουν πώς μπορούμε να συνεργαστούμε για τη διαφύλαξη της δημοκρατίας και την προώθηση της διαφορετικότητας και της συμπερίληψης στις κοινωνίες μας. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, η Πρεσβεία των Η.Π.Α. στην Αθήνα και το Οικονομικό Φόρουμ των Δελφών διοργανώνουν το Partners in Democracy Symposium στις 25 Μαΐου, στην Εθνική Πινακοθήκη.
Στο Συμπόσιο θα ακουστούν διαφορετικές φωνές με ευρύτητα απόψεων για την αντιμετώπιση των προκλήσεων που αντιμετωπίζει η δημοκρατία, όπως οι κοινωνικές ανισότητες, η παραπληροφόρηση και η άνοδος του αυταρχισμού.
Οι συμμετέχοντες θα διερευνήσουν επίσης πώς μπορεί η τέχνη να συμβάλει στην ενίσχυση της δημοκρατίας, πώς οι πόλεις μπορούν να λειτουργήσουν ως πλατφόρμες ένταξης και πώς μπορούμε να διατηρήσουμε και να ενδυναμώσουμε τη δημοκρατία για τις μελλοντικές γενιές. Στις 24 Μαΐου, η Πρεσβεία των Η.Π.Α., σε συνεργασία με το Art in Embassies του State Department, θα εγκαινιάσει την περιοδεύουσα έκθεση A More Perfect Union: American Artists and the Currents of Our Time, που θα φιλοξενηθεί στο Μουσείο της Ακρόπολης. Η έκθεση, η οποία τελεί υπό την αιγίδα του Υπουργείου Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού της Ελλάδας, αποτελεί μέρος της Democracy Collection του Arts in Embassies και περιλαμβάνει μερικούς από τους πιο γνωστούς σύγχρονους Αμερικανούς καλλιτέχνες, όπως οι Bruce Nauman, Yoko Ono, Christine Sun Kim, Edward Ruscha και Carrie Mae Weems.
Η έκθεση επικεντρώνεται σε θέματα ισότητας, ελευθερίας, δικαιοσύνης και άλλων θεμελιωδών αρχών της δημοκρατίας και θα ταξιδέψει σε πολλές πρωτεύουσες σε όλο τον κόσμο καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του έτους. Τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης θα γίνουν στην Αθήνα, ως γενέτειρα της δημοκρατίας, και θα συνδέσει τις σύγχρονες δημοκρατικές αξίες με τις αρχαίες ρίζες τους. Θα είναι ανοιχτή για το κοινό έως τις 30 Μαΐου, στην αίθουσα προσωρινών εκθέσεων του Μουσείου Ακρόπολης. Η συλλογή Democracy Collection υλοποιήθηκε με τη συνεργασία των The Boeing Company, Ίδρυμα Ford, Ίδρυμα Doris Duke, καθώς τη στήριξη των United Airlines, Microsoft, AT&T, Salamander Hotels and Resorts, καθώς πολλών μεμονωμένων φιλάνθρωπων και συλλεκτών.
Τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης της Democracy Collection στην Αθήνα γίνεται με χορηγία του Ομίλου Εταιρειών Τσάκος.
Επίσης, το Athens Democracy Forum συνέβαλε στο Partners in Democracy Symposium ως programming partner.

The U.S. Embassy in Athens and Delphi Economic Forum present the Partners in Democracy initiative Including the Partners in Democracy Symposium and the traveling exhibition A More Perfect Union: American Artists and the Currents of Our Time Athens, May 18, 2023 – We’re at a critical crossroads of history, at the forefront of the struggle between authoritarian powers and democracy. The actions we take today will determine the future of our world tomorrow. What kind of world do we wish to live in? The U.S. Embassy in Athens and the Delphi Economic Forum, in collaboration with Art in Embassies present the Partners in Democracy initiative, on May 24 and 25, in Athens. The initiative will convene emerging leaders, representatives of civil society, and prominent experts from Greece, the United States, and around the world to discuss how we can work together to safeguard democracy and promote diversity and inclusion in our societies. The U.S. Embassy in Athens and the Delphi Economic Forum will hold the Partners in Democracy Symposium at the National Gallery on May 25. The Symposium brings together a diverse array of voices to address current challenges democracies face, including social inequalities, disinformation, and the rise of authoritarianism. Participants will also explore
what art can do for democracy, how cities can act as platforms of inclusion, and how we can preserve and invigorate democracies for future generations. On May 24, the U.S. Embassy, in partnership with the State Department’s Art in Embassies office, will launch the traveling exhibition A More Perfect Union: American Artists and the Currents of Our Time, hosted by the Acropolis Museum. The exhibition, which is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, is part of the Art in Embassies’ Democracy Collection, and features some of the most respected contemporary American artists, including Bruce Nauman, Yoko Ono, Christine Sun Kim, Edward Ruscha, and Carrie Mae Weems. The exhibition focuses on issues of equality, freedom, justice, and other founding principles of democracy, and will travel to several capitals around the world throughout the year. The exhibition will launch in Athens, the birthplace of democracy, and will connect current democratic values with democracy’s ancient roots. It will be open to the public through May 30, at the temporary exhibition hall of the Acropolis Museum. The Democracy Collection is made possible by its partners, The Boeing Company, the Ford Foundation, and the Doris Duke Foundation, as well as United Airlines, Microsoft, AT&T, Salamander Hotels and Resorts, and scores of individual philanthropists and collectors. The launch of the Democracy Collection in Athens is sponsored by the Tsakos Group of Companies.
